There have been more famous onscreen duos in screen history, and even some of them have been friends in real life, but few are as fun to watch together as Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal. The two broke into stardom in 2001’s Y Tu Mama Tambien, when both were around 21. The 2009 Tribeca Film Festival starts today and Rudo y Cursi will be among the films screened. The story is about two bumbling half-brothers from the sticks who both get signed to play for rival soccer clubs in Mexico City. Models, fast cars, gambling, drug-use, pet monkeys, cup-o-noodle, sibling rivalry and vanity singing careers all ensue from there.
During the Festival, the Apple Store (Soho) will be hosting film events, one of which will include Diego Luna, Gael Garcia and Carlos Cuarón on April 27, 2009.

City of God director Fernando Meirelles has revealed he paid the price for letting Gael Garcia Bernal spoof a Stevie Wonder song in his new film Blindness. The Babel actor spontaneously broke into one of Stevie’s hits during a break in fliming and the director decided to use the footage in the film.
“They charged us 50,000 US dollars so it was a very expensive joke but we paid,” said Fernando.

Gael Garcia Bernal is to be honored at the upcoming International Film Festival in Guadalajara for his contributions to cinema.
The film star isn’t just a pretty face — Garcia Bernal is also the co-founder of the documentary film festival Ambulante with his close friend and fellow actor Diego Luna.
