Plans to bring the life of the founder of the United Farm Workers to the big screen are in the final stages, according to members of Cesar Chavez’s family, and the foundation that bears his name.
According to “The Hollywood Report,” the film about the famed Mexican American civil rights leader and labor activist will be made by Mexico-based Canana Films, owned by Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna.
The screenwriters for the film are already in place, according to Manuel Bernal, vice president of the Cesar Chavez Foundation told EFE.

Outstanding Latin actors Benicio Del Toro and Gael García Bernal will carry out a new film by director Martin Scorsese. The film titled Silence is based on the homonymous novel of Shusaku Endo, whose cinematographic adaptation is being written by scriptwriter Jay Cocks.
Puerto Rican Del Toro and Mexican Bernal will play two Jesuit bishops during the 17th century that are introduced clandestinely in Japan in order to find their teacher and promote the education of Christian writings. The recording of Silence could begin by the end of this year in New Zealand.
