The Mexican actor Gael García Bernal is recovering in Mexico City from a hernia surgery which he was subjected to a week ago, reported today the father of the artist, Mexican producer José Angel Garcia.

EFE ” He was just operated 6 days ago from a hernia, it was a simple surgery and he is now at his mother’s home (the actress Patricia Bernal) recovering”, said José in a television program.

The father of the protagonist of “Y Tu Mama También,” “Amores Perros” and “The Motorcycle Diaries”, added that the surgery was not serious, so in a week, he may return to work.

In the upcoming days, the Mexican actor will attend Cannes, where the movie “Blindness”, directed by the Brazilian Fernando Meirelles, based on the work of Portuguese José Saramago, will open the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.
