Once he passes the test in some European countries, Gael García Bernal prepares his suitcases in order to open The Commune in Mexico.

The actor chose the [Mexican] capital to release the play Together, which in Spanish has the title The Commune, inside the frame of the Historical Center Festival of Mexico City. Later it will be presented in Guadalajara.

“The staging, where the actor now shines as a hippie, will have three performances scheduled on April 11, 12 and 13,” indicated Icunacury Acosta, public relations for Canana Films.

“It will also be in Guadalajara. I still do not know the exact date, as the organizers of the festival will take several projects to this city that will be presented in the capital event,” pointed out Acosta.

The Commune, that García Bernal also produces, with the cast of Anaya, Daniel Brühl and Lukas Moodysson, and with the direction of Icelandic actor Gísli Örn, was released at the end of February in Iceland and other European countries.

“At present, Gael continues on in Iceland with the play and we have received comments from people of Mexico who have gone to see it that indicate to us that the performances have a full theater,” mentioned Acosta.

The play, by Lukas Moodysson, it is said, is spoken 30% in English and the rest in Icelandic, but they still have not informed him in what language it will appear in Mexico.

The story relates to the life of Elisabeth, a housewife who leaves her husband, he then gives her a tremendous beating. She goes away with her children to live with her brother, who lives in a commune where the people are accustomed to being naked, seeding vegetables that they consume and drinking red wine.

The premiere of the play will be a month and a half before the launching of the movie Deficit, García Bernal’s debut work [as director] with Camila Sodi, Ann Serradilla, Tenoch Huerta and Juan Pablo Medina.

“The film is released on May 30th and very possibly Gael will do a promotional tour along the principal cities of the country. It still has not been confirmed, but it is the proposal of Videocine, the company that is going to distribute the movie,” mentioned Acosta.

The movie, which has appeared in some festivals, it is said, has awakened interest because this is the first project by García Bernal as film director.
