Mexico City – Actors Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna will present for the first time this year their “Ambulante” tour of documentaries in Mexican jails.
“They are four prisons, some of them are federal, but not all, they will be three male [prinsons] and one female,” said Elena Fortes, director of Ambulante.
Different genres of documentaries will be projected in the jails, which will have to have prior approval by penitentiary authorities. “There still, what we can show is subject to approval,” she indicated.
The programming includes movies such as Rigo, A Total Confession by Víctor Vio (Mexico) about the life of musician Rigo Tovar, Cocalero by Alejandro Landes (Argentina/U.S.) about the movement of Evo Morales, Mi vida adentro by Lucía Gajá (México) and Nacido sin by Eva Norvind (México).
“Ambulante: Tour of Documentaries” was born two years ago as an initiative of García Bernal and Juna to promote the documentary in Mexico.
Luna will open the programe of the third edition in Mexico City on February 1, while García Bernal will close the tour on April 24 in the state of Oaxaca. Elena Fortes ruled out that the two Mexican actors will present the documentaries in the prisons.
